The great stroller/carseat debate

We've been doing a lot of research on car seats and strollers. This is another case of finding out what has worked for other people and what hasn't so we can make the most informed decision possible. It's kind of funny because I thought we really jumped the gun by starting registries so early, but now I'm starting to feel the crunch because I have a shower coming up in July and we need to get this stuff on the registry very soon!

The big debate is between a "travel system" (the baby carrier that clips into the base that's already installed in the car, and that transfers easily to the stroller) or a regular car seat and separate stroller. The travel systems seem to work great, but they also appear a little cumbersome, and it seems like babies grow out of them so quickly.

Remember our friends who have the 14 lb two-month-old? Yeah--that kiddo is going to outgrow his carseat in another 8 pounds, which for him could be just a couple months.

I started writing this post before we went out shopping, so now I'm armed with a little more information, although I don't know as I'm any closer to a definite decision about what to get. It seems like for every person who likes the travel system, there's someone else who doesn't like it.

I'm going to save some of my thoughts on this for tomorrow when I have a clear head. It's late and I'm tired, and I need to rest up for an extremely hellish week next week.
