Several people have asked me if we have a theme for the nursery. The answer, big surprise, is no. First, I'm not a fan of the usual baby animal themes (even though I do think they're really cute in small doses), and I detest Winnie the Pooh and Classic Pooh. My feeling on the Pooh stuff is this--The baby is, well, an infant. He/she is not going to know what's on his/her swing, crib, etc... I, the mom, will have to look at the stuff every day, so shouldn't it be aesthetically pleasing to me? Maybe that makes me selfish, but I don't think so. I don't want to resent the child for causing me to have to litter our home with things I don't like!
On a side note, Chris was able to pick up a nice swing for $25. It has a little mobile over the top that has three little bears on it, which I don't love, but I'll come back to that in a second. The cover on the swing itself is blue and gold--->Sabres colors. (We're HUGE Buffalo Sabres fans!!!) So back to the bears--I'm going to try to find or make some little Sabres-themed items that will dangle from the mobile. Bye bye bears--you're going to be replaced by hockey pucks! (And please don't tell me that it's dangerous to hang hockey pucks from a mobile. Trust me, I DO know better than to dangle heavy items over an infant's melon.)
So back to a theme--I'm more interested in a color scheme than a theme. There are so many pretty patterns out there--I love plaids and polka dots. I love earth tones. I like green for obvious environmental reasons, and because it's a gender neutral color. But as for picking an actual theme, I'm lost. It's the minutia that drives me up a wall. I can handle picking out the main item, but when it comes to the details like color and style, forget it! I fall apart! Usually for me it comes down to price. If I like two things and one is significantly less expensive than the other, I go for the less expensive item. But when dealing with a registry and other people buying things, I don't know what to tell them! I'm just thankful for my friends and family who put up wtih my quirkiness. I know I must make you crazy, and I love you very much for accepting me the way I am!!!
(I guess a good rule of thumb is that if it's environmentally friendly, I'm sure to like it, even if it doesn't match the other stuff I have! And if you refuse a nasty plastic bag when you buy it, that's even more of a tribute to our little green Blueberry and his/her mission to save the earth. Yep--a 23 week old fetus and it's already a tree hugger. It told me so. ;)

ReplyDeleteI didn't have a theme with either of my boys. Everyone said I was boring. Whatever! It seems you already have a theme - blueberry (smile).
