Today was ultrasound day. I arranged it with my principal to take my lunch at 2:00 (even though I've probably only taken an actual lunch a few times in the six years I've been there!) so that I could make it to the hospital at 3:00. I went home first because the hospital is right around the corner from our house. Chris was home when I got there, and we walked over to the appointment.
They told me to arrive "with a pretty full belly of water." I left work at 2:00, so I went to the bathroom just before I left and refilled my Nalgene reusable water bottle (Chris' is exactly like this, and mine is pink) and drank it on the way home, but by the time I got home, I really had to pee again, so I figured I'd go since I'd be stuck in the waiting room for a while. I refilled my bottle again and drank it on the way to the hospital.
I got there and checked in, then they called me to do the insurance information and sent me back to the waiting room. Someone came out and called my name. Thinking that it was my turn, I started to stand up, but the tech walked over to me and said that they had some emergencies and that they were backed up. It would be 20-30 minutes, possibly longer. We sat for a few minutes and tried to decide what to do, then the lady from the billing department came out and asked if anyone had talked to us. She lightly recommended (more like hinted) that we look into rescheduling our appointment.
We went over to the window where the lady schedules appointments, and she was like "Oh, you don't want to wait...this doctor sent someone down and said that he wants her taken care of right away, and they have three other emergencies in there, so you could be waiting a long time." We had been looking forward to this for a long time, and just when it was within our grasp, it was yanked away. (Don't get me wrong, I know it could have been MUCH worse and we're thankful that it wasn't, but still, it did stink a little bit.)
We got home and Chris called Buffalo Ultrasound to see if we could get a Saturday appointment, and lo and behold, they were able to fit us in! Poor Chris will just be returning from Chicago late on Friday night and then we'll have to turn around and go to Buffalo on Saturday morning, but at least we don't have to wait too long to get it taken care of.
As I'm sitting on the couch typing this blog, I can feel Blueberry kicking up a storm as if to say, "Don't worry, I know you didn't get to see me today, but I'm still in here!"

Aww you can feel him/her? My friend is about 18 weeks and she can't feel anything yet. I guess it depends on the person huh? Aww, that stinks! I hope it all works out Saturday!! :)
ReplyDeleteUltrasounds are exciting, so your wait will be well worth it. Blueberry is a smart child; listen to your baby (smile).
ReplyDeleteYep, I can feel him/her! It started a few weeks ago...first some really subtle little "pops" and then they became more pronounced. I was happy that Chris was able to feel the movements right around the time I started to feel them! Today I had my hand resting on my belly and I saw my finger move, so I looked down and could actually see my belly popping out where he/she was kicking me! I'm bummed that Chris is out of town and couldn't share that with me!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy about the ultrasound. As with anything, I'm a little nervous about it and want to make sure it's completely safe, but I know that almost all of the people I know who have had babies had ultrasounds...usually more than one. Chris is looking forward to using modern technology to check out his offspring.
Thanks for the article, armouris! Very interesting!
